Graduate Assistant -Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs

The Graduate Assistant for the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs works directly with the Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs. This position works to support students of concern on campus, staff development programs, publications and manages special projects. Special projects range from annual report summary, data analysis, bench marking, program planning and implementation.

·           Enrolled in graduate school at Towson University.

·           Ability to maintain confidence and support students who are struggling and connect students with resources to promote success.

·           Desire to build community, demonstrated commitment to diversity and commitment to create positive change.

·           Ability to take initiative and work on assigned projects.

 

Primary responsibilities of the graduate assistant are:

·           Assist with initiatives to support students of concern on campus.

·           Utilize Advocate web-based CARE Network to cross reference students in academic distress with students of concern on campus and provide appropriate support and referrals.

·           Support students utilizing the Food Insecurity Support Fund.

·           Assist with tabling to promote initiatives out of the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs

·           Coordinate the Student Fee Forum to be offered each academic year.

·           Assist with the Bereavement Procedure and Medical Absences

·           Assist with divisional publications such as the annual report and the Division of Student Affairs Website.

·           Plan and implement programs throughout the year which include the Student Fee Forum, Staff Development Events, and the Student Affairs Holiday Party.

·           Serve as a member of the staff development committee

·           Assist in the Administration of the Brick Recognition Program to promote a culture of recognition

·           Utilize Adobe software to create the Annual Report Summary

·           Assist the Vice President and Associate Vice President with special projects as needed.

·           Other duties as assigned

 

In the proper performance of these responsibilities, the graduate assistant should:

·       Maintain regular office hours, completing 20 hours of work throughout the week, and understanding some night and weekend work is required.

·       Attend Staff Development Committee meetings regularly.

·       Meet regularly with students.

·       Meet weekly with the Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs.

·       Complete assigned projects in a timely and professional manner.

·       Maintain regular communication with the Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs.

·       Exercise professionalism, good judgment and maturity in all dealings with students, faculty, staff, and other individuals one may come in contact with at Towson University.
