Fraternity and Sorority Life Graduate Assistant

General Description:

The Graduate Assistantship for Fraternity and Sorority Life serves as an important link between the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life and all chapters of fraternities and sororities on campus. This graduate assistant will serve as a program management specialist and administrative assistant. 

 

Job Requirements/Qualification

·            Enrolled in graduate school at Towson University.

·            Evidence of strong communication and organizational skills.

·            Desire to work in a team environment.

·            Desire to build community, demonstrated commitment to diversity and commitment to create positive change.

·            Ability to take initiative and work on assigned project.

 

Primary responsibilities of the graduate assistant are:

·            Development and execution of programs such as Greek Unity Programs, Council Education, Fraternity and Sorority Life wide initiatives.

·            Assist in marketing strategies for Fraternity and Sorority Life such as social media, print marketing, and public relations campaigns.

·            Assisting in the planning of Greek Week, Dance the Madness, The Debut, Step Show, Stroll Competitions, Presidents Ball etc.

·            Present programs for retreats and student organizations as needed.

·            Assist with risk management training efforts such as TIPS, Hazing Prevention, etc.

·            Serve as a resource for all chapters and councils regarding chapter management and leadership development.

·            Other duties as assigned

 

Additionally, the graduate assistant will provide support to the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life and Greek chapters in the following areas:

·        Development and coordination of the Greek Leadership Awards Program

·        Assistance in development of Greek 101 and Greek Emerging Leaders

·        Provide support, guidance and accountability to chapters below determined grade standards.

·        Assistance with data collection, roster updates, assessments, grade reports, and other office items.

 

In the proper performance of these responsibilities, the graduate assistant should:

·        Maintain regular office hours, completing 20 hours of work throughout the week, and understanding some night and weekend work is required.

·        Attend President meetings and other committee meetings as assigned.

·        Meet regularly with student leaders, especially program coordinators.

·        Meet regularly with the Coordinator and Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life.

·        Complete assigned projects in a timely and professional manner.

·        Exercise professionalism, good judgment and maturity in all dealings with students, advisors and other individuals one may come in contact with at Towson University.

 

The Fraternity and Sorority Life graduate assistant position is a 9-month appointment.  The Graduate Assistantship is renewable on a yearly basis, if mutually agreed upon by the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, the Panhellenic Association, and the graduate assistant.
