Graduate Assistant for Service-Learning Initiatives

The Office of Civic Engagement & Social Responsibility is seeking a Graduate Assistant for the 2019 fall semester to support the service-learning initiatives across campus. This is a 20-hour per week position and includes tuition remission (up to 12 credits per semester) and a bi-weekly stipend ($3,000/semester). This position is supervised by the Assistant Director for Community Engagement. This position will work collaboratively within the Division of Student Affairs, Academic Departments, and community organizations to assist with service-learning initiatives.  
 
Responsibilities:

Assist Service-Learning Faculty
  • Provide faculty assistance with service-learning assessment: student, faculty, and community assessments
  • Conduct service-learning 101 classroom presentations (minimum of 3 per term)
  • Attend meetings and support SL faculty fellows 1.0 and 2.0
 
Promote a Culture of Service-Learning
  • Promote and highlight service-learning programs and courses to the campus (and surrounding community when appropriate) (minimum of one course highlight and one program highlight per month)
  • Lead one ABC trip during the 2019-2020 academic year
  • Work with supervisor to develop new programs that advance service-learning across campus and assist with additional programs as needed
  • Create and distribute monthly service-learning newsletter to the listserv
 
Promote CE&SR
·        Maintain and update Events at TU, Involved@TU, social media accounts, and service-learning displays and bulletin boards
  • Support office and divisional programming
  • Attend Civic Engagement & Social Responsibility staff meetings
  • Attend office signature events
  • Represent Civic Engagement & Social Responsibility at university programs such as Open House, Welcome to TU, Graduate Student Orientation, and other events
 
Additional Responsibilities
  • Assist in the implementation of campus wide service-learning programs
  • Attend regional Service-Learning & Civic Engagement Conference in April
  •  Assist with general office tasks
  • All other duties as assigned
 
Qualifications:
  • Towson University graduate student
  • Must maintain a cumulative and semester GPA of 3.0
  • Detailed-oriented with creative thinking abilities
  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods in the social sciences
  • Strong writing and analytical skills
  • Ability to take initiative with a self-motivated work ethic
  • Able to work effectively in a team environment
  • Forward-thinking and knowledgeable about social media
  • Can work in a high-paced environment while managing tasks, time, and deadlines
  • Availability to attend all office signature/mandatory events
