Graduate Assistant for Community Service
Civic Engagement & Social Responsibility
 
Civic Engagement & Social Responsibility is seeking a graduate assistant for the 2019 fall semester in the area of Community Service. This is a 20-hour per week position and includes tuition remission (up to 12 credits per semester) and a bi-weekly stipend ($3,000/semester). This position is supervised by the Coordinator for Community Service. This position will assist with service related programs including: development, organization, implementation, and assessment/evaluation of various initiatives. This position will serve as a resource to students and student organizations looking to participate in service.  

Responsibilities:
Oversee TU Serves programming
·     Coordinate two campus wide community service opportunities per month
·     Recruit volunteers and manage all pre-event logistics such as vehicle reservation, participant database, and waivers
·     Facilitate two Volunteer Roundtable discussions per semester to enhance networking among student volunteers
·     Supervise student Community Ambassadors in their work to partner with student organizations engaged in community service

Promote a culture of community service
·     Maintain and update Events at TU, Involved@TU, social media accounts, and community service displays and bulletin boards
·     Contribute to the monthly office newsletter
·     Supervise the student Community Ambassadors in tabling and flyering to promote volunteer opportunities
·     Promote awareness of the weekly volunteer opportunities newsletter to connect students with local non-profits

Promote a culture of community service
·     Maintain Support office and divisional programming
·     Attend Civic Engagement & Social Responsibility staff meetings
·     Support implementation of Town & Gown and The Big Event
·     Represent Civic Engagement & Social Responsibility at university programs such as Open House, Welcome to TU, Graduate Student Orientation, and other events

Additional Responsibilities 
·     Assist in the implementation of campus wide service program such as Project Serve, Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, and National Volunteer Week
·     Attend regional Service-Learning & Civic Engagement Conference in April.
·     Staff one Alternative Break Trip per semester.  
·     Assist with general office tasks.
·     All other duties as assigned. 

 Qualifications:
·      Towson University graduate student
·      Maintain a cumulative and semester GPA of 3.0
·     Available to work August 12-23, 2019 for Project Serve
·     Must be willing and able to pass a driving test to operate a Towson University 10 passenger van
·     Must be student friendly and customer service-oriented
·     Ability to complete projects through all stages of management
·     Excellent oral & written communications skills
·     Knowledge of applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, and Outlook
·     Be organized, ability to multi-task, display flexibility, and work well under pressure
·     Comfortable working in a dynamic, student friendly, and fast-paced environment
·     Creativity, good sense of humor, and excellent work ethic
