Position Description: Graduate Assistant, Leadership


The Office of Student Activities is seeking a graduate assistant for the 2019-2021 academic years in the area of Student Leadership Development. This position will assist with student leadership programming: development, organization, implementation, and evaluation. This position will require involvement in major leadership initiatives such as: iLead, LeaderShape, advising of leadership organizations, and any Fall and/or Spring Leadership Conferences. Candidates who can start in the summer for additional pay, and are looking to hold the position for two years are preferred. This position is supervised by the Coordinator of Student Leadership. This is a 20-hour/week position that includes tuition remission (up to 12 credits per semester) and a bi-weekly stipend. 

Primary Duties
·        Develop an understanding of the mission and vision of Towson University (TU), Division of Student Affairs, and Office of Student Activities
·        Assist the Office of Student Activities Assistant Director of Leadership, Coordinator of Student Leadership Programs with the creation, evolution, and execution of the vision of leadership development
  • Plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate the iLead weekly program series
  • Assist in planning and coordinating student leadership conference(s) and other main leadership initiatives, including LeaderShape, as needed
  • Assist with advising and management of leadership organizations, such as National Society of Leadership and Success
  • Facilitate engaging and interactive iLead workshops and other leadership workshops on campus as needed
  • Assist with promotion and marketing of iLead workshop series and other leadership initiatives
  • Supervise 3-4 undergraduate Student Leadership Consultants, who assist with leadership workshops and initiatives on campus
  • Assist with development and implementation of a comprehensive leadership curriculum
·        Work with Student Activities Marketing, Art Services, and Print Services to get designs for events
·        Assist with programmatic and assessment initiatives within Office of Student Activities
·        Attend department staff meetings/trainings/retreats
·        Lead weekly staff meetings with the Student Leadership Consultants (SLC) and Coordinator of Student Leadership to discuss ongoing programs, workshops, and leadership development
·        Assist Office of Student Activities with department and/or university informational sessions (i.e. new student orientations, recruitment sessions, etc.)
·        Participate in department committees
·        Assist with the staffing of the front desk area which includes answering phone calls and providing assistance to visitors to the office
·        Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
·        Admitted into a Towson University graduate or certificate program
·        Knowledge of leadership theory and leadership development
·        Experience and comfort with public speaking and program facilitation
·        Preferred experience as a student leader in some capacity as an undergraduate
·        Ability to prioritize and complete tasks independently
·        Awareness of diversity, social justice, and inclusion concepts
·        Must be student friendly and customer service-oriented
·        Ability to complete projects autonomously through all stages of development and management
·        Excellent oral & written communications skills
·        Knowledge of applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
·        Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task, display flexibility, and work well under pressure
·        Comfortable working in a dynamic, student friendly, and fast-paced environment
·        Creativity and excellent work ethic
·        Ability to delegate tasks
