Graduate Assistant for Political Engagement and Community Outreach

The Office of Civic Engagement and Social Responsibility at Towson University (CESR) provides students, faculty and staff with several opportunities to help make the world a better place.

CESR is looking for a driven, passionate individual to join our team as a Graduate Assistant for Political Engagement and Community Outreach, a position dedicated to the promotion of active citizenship, awareness of current events and issues, the support of students who live off-campus, and the fostering of strong bonds between TU students and the greater Towson community. This is a 20-hour per week position and includes tuition remission (up to 12 credits per semester) and a bi-weekly stipend ($3,000/semester).

Position responsibilities include:

Political Engagement
Assist in the coordination of political engagement initiatives such as:
·        New York Times Talks
·        Campus Conversations
·        Voter Registration Initiatives
·        Political engagement and advocacy workshops

 Community Outreach 
·        Assist with the logistics for the student canvassing community outreach program 
·        Oversee Community Ambassadors program
·        Assist in the coordination of programming to support/engage off-campus students 
·        Assist with the planning, implementation, and logistics of major office events (The Big Event, Town & Gown, & Off-Campus Student Kickback etc.) 
·        Track and maintain off-campus student engagement throughout the semester 
 
 Promote a Culture of Political and Community Engagement 
·        Conduct site visits for off-campus students living throughout the Towson, MD area 
·        Meet and work regularly with stakeholders relevant to political engagement and community outreach initiatives, including the Student Government Association (primarily student leaders serving in civic engagement-related roles), the Political Science Department, student organizations, programming partners, neighborhood associations, apartment complexes, and community/advocacy organizations.

 Promote CE&SR 
·        Maintain and update Events at TU, Involved@TU, social media accounts, and service-learning displays and bulletin boards 
·        Support office and divisional programming 
·        Attend CE&SR staff meetings, retreats and four (4) trainings a semester 
·        Attend office signature events 
·        Represent Civic Engagement & Social Responsibility at university programs such as Open House, Welcome to TU, Graduate Student Orientation, and other events 
 
Additional Responsibilities 
·        Assist in the implementation of campus wide community outreach programs 
·        Assist with general office tasks
·        All other duties as assigned
 
Qualifications:
·      Towson University graduate student
·      Maintain a cumulative and semester GPA of 3.0
·     Must be willing and able to pass a driving test to operate a Towson University 10 passenger van
·     Must be student friendly and customer service-oriented
·     Ability to complete projects through all stages of management
·     Excellent oral & written communications skills
·     Knowledge of applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, and Outlook
·     Be organized, ability to multi-task, display flexibility, and work well under pressure
·     Comfortable working in a dynamic, student friendly, and fast-paced environment
·     Creativity, good sense of humor, and excellent work ethic
