Graduate Assistant for Graduate Student Association

Schedule: 10 hours per week includes stipend + tuition waiver ($1,500 per semester + 6 credits per semester)
Timeline: August 19, 2019 through May 22, 2020
Description: Office of Graduate Studies is seeking three graduate students to serve as representatives on the Graduate Student Association. One student must be from each the following colleges and serve as the representative from that college: Business and Economics, Fisher College of Science and Mathematics, and Liberal Arts. The graduate students will be awarded a 10 hour assistantship for fall 2019 and spring 2020 and report to the Dean of Graduate Studies.
Responsibilities:
o Serve as a proactive member of the Graduate Student Association and liaison to graduate students within a particular college
o Represent the perspective of graduate students on Towson University committees
o Develop and disseminate graduate student newsletter and achievement letter
o Network with and maintain ongoing correspondence with graduate students regarding resources and opportunities; develop and maintain communication channels for graduate students via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram. email, other social media, and digital bulletin boards
o Collaborate with Student Government Association in student advocacy initiatives within Towson University and the university System of Maryland
o Assist with recruiting and public relations activities of Office of Graduate Studies, Graduate University Marketing and Enrollment and, and University Admissions
o Plan and coordinate special events such as graduate student orientation, workshops, and social activities
o Assist with approval and management of graduate assistant research and travel awards
o Facilitate organization of and meetings for the Graduate Assistant Advisory Council, and graduate clubs and organizations
o Hold weekly office hours
o Regularly prepare and review progress reports with graduate dean
o Other projects as assigned
Qualifications:
o Currently enrolled or accepted into a Towson University graduate program
o Ability to effectively represent Towson University and the interests of graduate students
o Ability to initiate, and manage multiple projects simultaneously
o Excellent writing, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to diplomatically correspond with all levels of authority on behalf of the GSA
o Ability to work well independently and in groups
o Excellent time management and long-term task planning skills
o Ability to work collaboratively with peers and university administration
o Available during day hours at least two days a week and the evening at least one day a week
o Must be detail oriented and able to work in a fast paced environment
Computer and Social Media Skills:
o Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
o Proficiency with social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, digital bulletin boards
