Forever Maryland - Communications & Outreach Intern

Exciting new start up nonprofit offers paid intern position with exceptional growth opportunity.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for the environment and Maryland’s natural resources.

The Communications & Outreach Intern will work with staff and volunteers on digital, promotional, and event media. Among other duties, the Communications & Outreach Intern will help develop local communication initiatives including website and social media content.

The Intern will work closely with staff to learn about the conservation and the community. Forever Maryland offers a friendly, informal, and inclusive work environment, dedicated to helping interns learn about Maryland conservation and to succeed in the internship.

Duties:
·      Creates, schedules, posts, gathers, promotes, measures communications across all platforms…Membership, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google My Business;
·      Gathers relevant articles, posts, newsletters for newsletter submission;
·      Writes organization, education, and program descriptive pieces;
·      Takes photos at events;
·      Catalogues photographs;
·      Writes press release drafts;
·      Builds network of media contacts;
·      Participates in industry events;
·      Seeks opportunities to amplify organizational reach;
·      Assists with the development of the annual report & newsletter (MET & FMF)
·      Maintains email list updates in MailChimp;
·      Assembles pitch packets for gift opportunities including sponsorships, memberships & large gifts;
·      Supports Keep Maryland Beautiful grant announcements at all phases; and
·      Creatively helps communicate the mission of the Forever Maryland Foundation.
Skills:
·      A demonstrated interest in environmental and/or conservation causes; 
·      Familiarity with various Maryland regions;
·      The ability to work remotely during normal business hours;
·      Exceptional writing ability and experience with writing stories;
·      The ability to collect and synthesize information from diverse sources;
·      Being resourceful, organized, and detail-oriented;
·      The ability to prioritize and meet deadlines;
·      Being a self-starter with the ability to multi-task;
·      Experience with using social media: Twitter, Facebook and Instagram; and
·      Skills with Powerpoint, and the Microsoft Office Suite (Photo editing software and MailChimp are extremely useful but not necessary).
